EMU


Dromaius novaehollandiae

Emu is the second largest living bird in the world, behind the Ostrich which is native to Australia. Emus can grow upto 2 meters in height and they have extremely soft feathers. Emus are omnivorous birds.

Patna Zoo has breeding population of Emu. Patna Zoo received a female Emu from Ahmedabad Zoo in the year 1992 to pair its male one and which lead to breeding. At present Patna Zoo has four Emus.

FOOD HABITAT AT PATNA ZOO

  • Banana- 1.5 - 2 Kgs.
  • Sattu- 100 gms.
  • Garlic- 100 gms.
  • Per bird per day.
  • It is standard diet and it varies with season to season.
